There is no doubt that optimum nutrition is the best way to keep your body healthy and free from illnesses. But when I refer to optimum nutrition, what exactly am I talking about? Well, here’s a look at what constitutes optimum nutrition.

To put it in simple terms, optimum nutrition refers to eating the right foods in the right combination (a balanced diet), and ensuring an adequate daily intake of water. A balanced diet includes various foods which are rich in several nutrients, and in combination with each other, provide you with all the essential nutrients that your body needs. These are:

  • Vitamins
  • Minerals
  • Proteins
  • Fats
  • Carbohydrates (starch)
  • Co-factors and digestive enzymes
  • Fiber
  • Phyto-nutrients and
  • Good bacteria

Thus, as you can see, you need to eat a wide variety of animal and plant foods in order to ensure a daily intake of all the essential nutrients as mentioned above. And let’s face it; in today’s world where fast food reigns supreme, hardly anyone eats a proper balanced diet. Most people have poor nutritional habits, which is why their bodies are susceptible to more diseases. Thus, in order to ensure optimum nutrition and a fit body, nutritional support through good quality nutritional supplements becomes essential.

“But why should I take nutritional supplements when I eat a perfectly balanced diet?”

Well, even if you are one of those few people who has good nutritional habits and who consumes a perfectly balanced diet, you still need to take nutritional supplements. Why? Read on……

The soil today is not as nutrient rich as it once was, due to which foods too are not as high in nutrients as they used to be. There is also an increased use of chemicals in the food industry, and modern cultivation and farming methods too do not do anything to maintain the quality of food. Due to all these reasons, food is depleted of most of its vital nutrients, which is why it is practically impossible to achieve optimum nutrition through food alone.

Thus, the only way to ensure optimum nutrition is to eat foods in as close to their natural state as possible, avoid unhealthy methods of cooking such as frying, and use an appropriate regimen of nutritional supplements in your daily life. As various nutritional supplements too can have undesirable side effects if used improperly, it is essential to take nutritional supplements under the expert guidance of a natural health care doctor only.

Life is a cycle and part of this cycle is loss. With loss comes grief which is a natural part of the healing process and which will eventually lead to recovery. There are a lot of causes of loss. But no matter the cause, dealing with a loss can be a very complicated and emotional time in a person’s life.

The death of a loved one or a close friend is only one of the many forms of loss in a person’s life. There are different kinds of loss and it is very personal to the one experiencing it. Other forms of loss are the loss of health, a long-held dream, a job and loss of financial security. Some grieve for a relationship breakup or the loss of a personal object. Less obvious losses, like leaving home or graduation from school, can still generate strong feelings of grief.

Traumatizing losses like accidents, crimes or suicides happen suddenly. In situations like these, the person has no time to prepare emotionally. The person becomes unsure of the predictability of life and loses his sense of security and confidence. As a result, the person may experience sleep disturbances, nightmares, social isolation, severe anxiety, or distressing thoughts. Predictable losses, such as those with fair warning like a terminal illness, sometimes allow the person time to prepare for the loss. Although this type of loss creates two layers of grief; anticipated grief and the actual grief related to the loss.

There is no specific time limit for grieving because grief is very subjective. Some people would like grief to be short and fast because it can be intense and painful. Unfortunately, it is a process and cannot be rushed. With time and support, it gets better. However, it is normal to feel the loss again on special dates of the year like birthdays, holidays and anniversaries. At times like these, taking care of oneself, acknowledging the feelings, seeking support and surrounding oneself with positive people will help.

It should be noted that grief is not linear and is experienced in cycles. It is often said to be similar to climbing a spiral staircase and the person feels like he is traveling in a never-ending circle, when in fact he is actually improving. One should realize that patience is essential while undergoing the process and allowing one’s feelings to be expressed without judgment. But if you feel that you are ’stuck’ in the grief, talking with a counselor or a supportive person may help nudge you forward.

There are normal reactions to grief. When grieving, it is expected that you feel like you are ‘going crazy’, of course remorseful and unable to concentrate. Often you might feel irritable or angry at others, at God, at yourself, or at the one you lost. Most people feel frustrated, anxious, afraid, ambivalent, numb and even guilty.

Grief is a process that consists of steps. According to various authors, there are stages that the grieving person goes through. According Elizabeth Kubler-Ross, grief is characterized by 5 stages, namely Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression, until finally Acceptance. Alan Wolfeit states that there are “Mourning Needs” which include acknowledging the reality of the loss, embracing the pain of the loss, remembering the person who has gone, developing a new sense of identity and then searching for meaning and receiving support from others.

Understanding of the grieving process differs from one person to another because it depends on the cultural background of the one experiencing it. Some cultures have a so-called ‘time to grieve’ and have developed rituals to help people get though it. Grief is a universal sentiment and the support from other people tells the person that he is not alone. These rituals usually occur during special times of the year like wakes, anniversaries, birthdays or holidays. Grieving rituals are deeply rooted in the cultures of a lot of people. It is an expression of grief, to acknowledge the pain and to offer support and reaffirmation of life.

Each one of us has his own style in coping with loss. Some may talk to friends and families, exercise, eat, read poetry or books. Others seek spiritual support; join a support group and social activities. Others still just lay back and let themselves feel the grief in its full form. When one is new to grief, one could experiment and come up with a style of ones own. But only you know what coping skills are best for your personality and lifestyle.

The United Kingdom is a wonderful country, mixing the history and traditions of several nations. Each of the countries which make up the Kingdom is unique and offer incredible places to visit.

Unfortunately, UK was always an expensive place to travel to. The British Pound has been so strong in the recent years but anyone outside UK would have to plan carefully to afford a vacation here. Now, with the crisis looming all over, the currency is getting weak and is almost as strong as the Euro which makes UK a cheaper destination for Europeans.

Finding cheap flights to the UK is very easy since the majority of large cities are served by several low-cost carriers. Check out plenty of offers before you decide which deal to accept. You can fly into a city where you can find a cheaper ticket and then you can take the train or bus for the last leg of the journey.

And to make your vacation even cheaper, look for last minute hotel deals and you’ll be able to save on accommodation as well.

As for eating, London is notoriously expensive when it comes to finding places to eat around the tourist landmarks. So, avoid them. Go in the market and buy your own food. Pack a picnic basket and head to the park to enjoy a relaxed afternoon. If you are on a coastal city, you can head to the beach for a romantic day out. Make sure to avoid the tourist traps. Some attractions are so expensive and they are not even worth the money. On the other hand, the museums are almost all free in London.

While health experts argue the benefits of some health supplements, the evidence continues to mount in favor of fish oil. Fish and fish oil supplements supply us with the Omega 3 fatty acids that are needed for heart and brain health. Even the American Heart Association strongly endorses the use of fish oil for cardiovascular health. Why? Because those with diets rich in Omega 3 fats are less likely to have high blood pressure or irregular heart rhythms, and are less likely to die from heart attacks or strokes.

Omega 3 fatty acids are also beneficial for brain health. The human brain is more than sixty percent structural fat. But, the type of fat needed for the brain to function properly is Omega 3 fatty acids. According to recent research, decreasing your intake of Omega 6 fats (primarily vegetable oils) along with increasing Omega 3 fatty acids, reduces the risk of depression, aggressive behavior, attention deficit disorder, schizophrenia and lowers your risk of developing Alzheimer’s. Other current studies with Omega 3 fats have shown benefits with regards to cancer, inflammatory diseases, diabetes and other health related conditions.

Of course we all know that there are good fats and bad fats. Any artificially produced fat, called transfats, are not good for us and saturated fats should always be kept at a minimum.

But there is a type of fat called EFA’s (Essential Fatty Acids) that are not only good for you but essential for normal growth and development. Furthermore, your body can’t manufacture them, so you must get them from your diet. Essential Fatty Acids are polyunsaturated and are grouped into Omega 6 and Omega 3’s.

Although both types of Omegas are essential for health, experts agree that our diet ratio of Omega 6 to Omega 3 fatty acids is greatly unbalanced. While our ancestor’s diets consisted of a diet ratio of Omega 6 to Omega 3 of about 1:1, our modern dietary habits now reflect a ratio closer to 20:1 to 50:1.

According to Dr. Donald Rudin, author of Omega 3 Oils, fatty acids are the main structural components of every cell membrane in the body, and therefore influence every process in the cell. He concludes that a balanced intake of essential fatty acids is necessary for both healthy cell function and a sense of well-being.

The permeability of the cell depends on the essential fatty acids. This allows nutrients into the cell and toxins to escape. When we rely on other fats to do the job required of Omegas 3 fats the structure of the membrane of each cell becomes stiff and unable to remain healthy enough to do its job.

The primary sources of Omega 6 fats are canola, soy, corn, safflower and sunflower oil. These oils are overabundant in the typical diet, which explains our excess Omega 6 levels. Omega 3 fats are typically found in flaxseed, walnuts and fish.

The Omega 3 fatty acids found in cold-water fish, such as tuna, salmon, trout and mackerel consists of DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) and EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid). Omega 3’s in the form of ALA (alpha-linolenic acid) can be found in flaxseed and walnut oils, and seaweed. However, the body must convert ALA to DHA and EPA to derive the heart & brain healthy benefit. This conversion however, is often difficult for some people to make. Therefore getting your Omega 3 fat acids directly from cold water fish or fish oil supplements may be your best bet.

One of my favorite people in the world is named Billy. I used to visit Billy when I dated one of his co-workers. Billy would ask about what I was teaching. I would tell him the topics of the week and we would have some very interesting conversations.

I would share comments that I heard from “a friend” with my students. Billy was the friend. The students looked forward to what he said and good discussions would result.

Back in April, I started a book tour. Billy came with his wife, Judy, who is a teacher. I told her about our conversations and how Billy was “the friend” that would get my students stirred up. Judy wasn’t surprised at all. Their older children are teachers and their younger son is a bright and energetic student athlete. I imagine they all have strong opinions. Judy also told me about some of the ways that Billy helps people from different circumstances and how he serves as a Christian. That didn’t surprise me at all.

What makes Billy unique is that he can voice his opinions so openly. He has absolutely no desire to be politically correct. I respect that. It would be nice if we all thought the same way, but, in reality, we don’t. Mostly, he is funny.

I never felt the need to debate with Billy. He’s a grown man and his sentiments come from many experiences. He’s come to logical conclusions. He has common sense and he has never been offensive. I just listened. In a world full of so many different kinds of people, 100% agreement on every topic can not be expected.

The wonderful thing about people like Billy is that their respect for other people keeps their minds open. New information and experiences are presented every day and they take it into consideration. They think about things because they always want to do the right thing. It doesn’t matter where you are from and what you have seen when it comes to that.

People can’t help but develop opinions about how the “other” people are living. The difference nowadays is that the “other” people are your neighbors and co-workers. In fact, it’s likely that you are the “other” person here. In a city like Philadelphia, you can easily find a cluster of people who are similar to you and conduct your daily business within your comfort zone. There are people there who have never had significant interaction with people who are unlike themselves. I choose diversity over that every time.

Not that mixing with different kinds of people is easy. You learn some really unpleasant things about yourself when you leave your comfort zone. Usually, the things that you find wrong with the “other” people are exactly the things that are wrong with you.

My personal pet peeve is snobbery. I grew up with a whole lot of emphasis on “people like us” and staying within certain social and economic boundaries. Lawrence Otis Graham wrote a book about it called “Our Kind of People” that people like us might have found embarrassing, but mostly we just looked for our names or people we knew. It’s a tiny world and people want to keep it that way.

A few days ago, I pulled into my driveway and someone in another car slowed down and waved at me. I didn’t recognize the person, so I gave him my best “Keep Moving” look. Random friendship never happened in my world. It’s a tiny world where everybody knows each other. If not, you wait to be introduced. You can see a person regularly and still not know them. I didn’t make the rules, but apparently, I am good at following them.

A co-worker reminded me that I live in a small town. People wave here! The waver probably knows me from church. I know. Pray for me.

I thought about Billy and how I used to tell him that he had “issues.” Now I see that appreciating diversity is just accepting people whose issues are different than yours. I take students on a semester-long journey to that point. A little while with someone like will get you there too and you will laugh all the way.

Insomnia is a common condition seen by family physicians. The usual short-term treatment for it is medication that involves hypnotics. These medications are habit-forming drugs and with long usage people can become dependent on them.

The problem can start for many reasons. In many people who work in shifts, the body rhythm is disturbed disturbing the normal sleep pattern. In many young mothers the sleep pattern gets disturbed waking intermittently at night to look after the baby’s needs. Caring for an old relative at night can also disturb the sleep pattern.

In almost all of these cases, the subconscious mind has got the message that sleep would put someone at risk. So in order to deal with this perceived ‘danger’, the mind goes into an alert state and does not allow the body to sleep. No amount of conscious logic or reason can convince the subconscious to let the body sleep. This increases physical tension.

In order for the body to rest, the tension has to be reduced. When the perceived fears are addressed, the body goes into a state if tiredness and then it is allowed to fall asleep. One of the exercises that I have suggested to my patients is this:
At bedtime, when you are going to sleep, sit in the bed. Close your eyes. Take a deep breath in and then through your nose push the breath out forcefully but slowly. Next, take a deep breath and this time breathe out slowly and easily through the nose. Continue breathing like this with alternate breaths till you start to fall asleep.

With simple sleep problems, this exercise works well.

The underlying reason for most of the sleep problems is fear. Fear of the future is the worry. If fear issues are addressed in counseling or psychotherapy, sleep can become better. The other reason of sleep problem is anger. Most of the people would be unaware that they are carrying anger in their bodies. They might feel that because they do not worry, sleep disturbance is simply a disturbance of the body rhythm.
In almost all such cases that I have seen, anger has been an underlying issue. Addressing the anger benefits sleep.

Sleep disturbance is commonly seen in anxiety, depression, psychosis and mania. Many psychiatric conditions start with disturbed sleep. It is important to take insomnia seriously. It is good to address the issue as soon as it starts than to let it build up and cause complications.

An ezine is an essential part of an online business.

But it is not enough just to offer a free subscription to your high quality ezine.

You need to offer something more. You need to make the decision to subscribe to your ezine really easy. Basically, you have to give away something else for free when someone subscribes to
your ezine. You need to offer a bonus.

The 2 best bonuses to give subscribers when joining up to your regular ezine are a free ebook or a free email course.

1. Free Ebook

Give your subscribers a free ebook. If it is only 10 pages long then call it a free ebooklet or free special report. If it is more than 10 pages then call it a free ebook.

Also, make it really easy to get the free ebook. When subscribers subscribe to your ezine make sure an autoresponder goes back to them immediately with instructions on where to obtain the free ebook.

It is often the case that the free ebook enticed them into subscribing so make sure they can get their free ebook quickly and easily.

2. Free Email Course

Set up a free email course and offer it as a bonus for subscribing. Once again, make it available by autoresponder.
Set it up so that the email course starts as soon as someone has subscribed.

Again, make it really easy. When they subscribe to the ezine, tell them they will start receiving the bonus email course immediately.

Unfortunately it is not enough to give away a free ezine just by itself. You have to give away a bonus as well and you have to make the bonus enticing.

With a free ebook or email course you can set it up automatically with an autoresponder so that once it is up and
running there is no more work to do.

Using a bonus to get subscribers will certainly increase the number of subscribers you get. And that really is the objective for the ezine publisher - to get more subscribers!

In the world of business there are the big guys and there are the little guys. The big guys like Home Depot and Lowes are the muti-million dollar stores that carry everything and have an inventory greater than the payroll of many small U.S. cities. The amount of “shrinkage” these big guys have every month would probably allow me to live very comfortable the rest of my life.

The little neighborhood guy on the other hand, is scratching his ass every week just to meet his payroll. They are however, making a decent living. Only because they have been around for so long. That longevity has helped them build a loyal customer base.

Those loyal customers know damn well that they are going to pay a little more for certain items, but they go to the little guy because it’s close to where they live, and the service they receive is outstanding.

The little guy carries pretty much the same product as the big guy, but the price is of course higher. The little guy can’t buy the quantity that the big guy can. So the price has to be higher because his margin is lower.

The big suppliers, like Toro are now selling to the big guys because the big guys can buy more and sell them at a lower price, which leads to more sales for the Toro’s and other big names of that industry. The little guy has to rely on the service he gives his customers and not the quantity. The big guys don’t offer much service or knowledge anymore.

It’s the same for any one doing business online. The big guy with the big mailing list has a greater advantage then the little guy with only 300 or less subscribers. The big guy can set a much higher price for his ads because he can expose your ad to a much larger audience.

The little guy practically gives away the ads in his newsletter because he cannot offer the same exposure for your ad that the big guy does. Any person trying to sell their service or product will be more likely to spend $50.00 to have their ad seen by 45,000 readers, than pay $9.00 to be exposed to 300 pairs of eyes.

So the little guy newsletter and ezines must offer better service than the big fat cat publisher with a subscriber base reaching 100,000 plus. This means more hours of searching for new and informative things. Hours that you don’t have because you’re working a 40 hour job because you don’t have a huge subscriber base to which you can charge big bucks for advertising so you don’t have to work a 40 hour job . See the Catch 22?

Unlike the litle guy local store, you can become a big guy publsher. All you need is money to purchase leads, there are many places to do that on line today. Then you need the time to cultivate those leads, and turn them into subscribers. Over time you too can be a big guy publisher. The more money you have to buy leads, and more time you have to cultivate them, the quicker you get to charge big dollars to advertise in your ezine or newsletter.

Your second choice is to remain a little guy. Making little or no profit by charging $1.50 to expose your customers ads to all of your 300 readers. But take satisfaction in knowing that every week, week after, sore fingers from typing, week. You put out the best damn newsletter or ezine that you can possibly publish. And you do all of that month after month for one reason and one reason only. Because even though you don’t realize it……….deep down inside you really love doing it, and you kind of like being a little guy.

We’ve all heard about whalewatching from boats or shore, and a few companies are now offering the possibility of actually swimming and snorkeling with whales in the wild. Is this a good thing?

Some whalewatching operators in the Kingdom of Tonga, South Pacific islands, advertise the possibility of swimming and snorkeling with humpback whales during the cetacean’s annual migration from July to October. This activity sounds appealing, yet there are a number of things to consider.

To drop clients off within snorkeling distance of a whale, the swim boats must come closer than the 30 meters laid down in Tongan government guidelines in 1997. Engine noise from a maneuvering boat can startle a whale, and repeated disturbances can lead to the animals changing their behaviour and even abandoning their traditional habitat. The nursing and resting routines of the pods can be disrupted, potentially threatening the health of the whales.

This high-risk activity is not covered by most travel insurance policies. The humpback whales of Tonga are wild animals with powerful fins, and swimming near one always involves some risk. The movements of these huge creatures can be fatal to a human swimmer, either accidentally or if the beast feels threatened, and a nursing mother with calf can be especially unpredictable. Swimming into the path of a whale greatly increases the danger.

In Tonga, sharks are known to frequent areas where there are whales, especially calves, and at least one shark attack on a Tongan guide swimming with whales has been recorded. A tragic accident involving tourists seems to be only a matter of time.

Most whale encounters occur in deep waters where unperceived currents and wave action can soon tire a snorkeler and possibly lead to panic. For these reasons, responsible whalewatching companies like http://www.whalediscoveries.com do not offer snorkeling with whales.

Of course, the demand is there, and pressure has come to bear on the Tongan Government to revise its guidelines to allow boats to come within 10 meters of a whale. Several new whalewatching licenses have been issued recently, raising the number of commercial operators in this small area to about a dozen, and vessels often have to queue to drop off swimmers. Cases have been observed of boats approaching to within five meters of whale pods, and of mother humpbacks and calves being pursued out to sea.

Visitors should be aware that by purchasing such an excursion, they could be adversely affecting the noble creatures they came to see. It’s a good idea to discuss these matters with the operator before booking your trip, and to avoid those who seem most interested in maximizing their own profits at the expense of the whales.

Even if you decide to book such a tour, be aware that only 10 percent of swim-with attempts are successful and there are no refunds. These concerns only apply to attempts to actually swim with whales, and whalewatching from a boat at a safe distance is no problem.

Odd or Evens in Powerball and the Megamillions lottery

or

How to improve your odds of winning the lotto by millions.

One factor to consider in picking your Powerball
or the Megamillion lottery numbers is the ratio between
the odd / even lotto numbers.

Looking at the past history of all lottery games
there appears a pattern that shows you would be better off
by not playing all odd or all even numbers.

Example of playing all even numbers 2.4.6.20.40
example of playing all odd balls 3.11.21.35.47

For the 462 Megamillion lotto games reviewed at
the www.needto.net lotto site, the ratios were

Odd/even combo analysis
*******************************************************
play mix hits
5 odd 0 even 13 as a percentage 2.81 %
4 odd 1 even 63 as a percentage 13.64 %
3 odd 2 even 142 as a percentage 30.74 %
2 odd 3 even 163 as a percentage 35.28 %
1 odd 4 even 67 as a percentage 14.50 %
0 odd 5 even 14 as a percentage 3.03 %
*****************************************************************

Looking at the table above, you may improve your odds
by playing either 3 odd /2 even or 2 odd / 3 even.
These rations accounted for almost 2/3 of all past winners.
30.74 + 35.28 = 66.02%

These ratios are always changing, but this pattern does
occur across all lotto / lottery games. To see the current
lottery ratios see www.needto.net
