Mobile broadband is in widespread use in Sweden, where it has become a part of life for people, with usage constantly increasing throughout the country.

The Swedish Post and Telecom Agency recently published a report, which suggests that data transfer on mobile broadband network in the country has quadrupled over the last one year. The growth is quite promising, as data consumption doubled in 2008. As a result, data consumption on fixed-line broadband and mobile broadband is almost on the same level.

As a result, many are considering mobile broadband as an alternative to fixed line broadband. A senior partner from a telecom consultancy Rewheel said that mobile broadband has great market potential in the country. It also seems feasible for the customers considering the fact that prices in the country are low due to heavy competition (click for info on UK mobile broadband deals).

However, low prices may also make it unprofitable for companies to provide such services. High levels of competition have brought down the prices but in order to compete providers are resorting to undercutting each other, which can be harmful and can lead to the collapse of the industry. Many are arguing that before the possibility of mobile broadband replacing normal internet becomes a reality, something needs to be done about the pricing structure of the industry.
